A GIFT TO THE COMMUNITY

Luthern Garden Gates

For decades, neighborhoods in Fort Wayne grew up around the former campus of Lutheran Hospital. When the hospital was sold in 1995, one of the biggest concerns was what would happen to the hospital’s impressive footprint. For The Lutheran Foundation, the choice was clear—to create a green, peaceful place for the entire community. After much planning, in 2004 ground was broken for Lutheran Park and Gardens.

Lutheran Park and Gardens includes more than 12 acres of green space. The park was designed with the input of the five surrounding neighborhood associations and received an investment of more that $900,000 in land improvement and development. Features include:

  • Four cornerstones with plaques memorializing the historic past of Lutheran Hospital and the park Water fountain splash pad

  • Walking paths and green space for picnicking and other activities

  • Meditation Gardens featuring the historic Healing Christ Statue, dedicated to Lutheran Hospital in 1916

Luthern Gardens Christ Statue

On June 25, 2006 Lutheran Park and Gardens was officially dedicated—to the glory of God and for the enjoyment of all.

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping this a beautiful place.
